Stony's Multi-Stage Murals #1 - An Epic Journey Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Cache Effect: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

The first of five mural multi-stage caches in Stony Plain

The Cache is NOT at the posted coordinates

THE HOOK!

This is the first of five multi-stage caches where you must use information gathered from visiting a number of beautiful Stony Plain murals (5) in order to gather clues that lead you to a final set of coordinates which is where the actual cache is hidden. Through visiting each mural, you will be able to equate numbers to letters and then be able to solve for the final cache coordinates for this stage per below. Keep in mind that all letters and corresponding numbers may not be required in order to solve for the final coordinates, however (hopefully) you still need to visit every mural in order to get the numbers that you need.

Just to be clear, there are 5 murals in this stage ... and 5 murals in each of the other four stages (other 4 cache listings) - so in all you will be visiting 25 murals if you complete all 5 stages. Only once you have completed all 5 stages will you have the information necessary to find the Bonus Cache.

Some of these multi-stage mural caches will be a short and pleasant walk, while others will require a short drive instead.

Please enjoy your travel's around our town, whether walking or driving .... and in addition to enjoying the murals, please stop into some of our quaint little shops. You will certainly learn much about our little piece of Heaven we call Stony Plain. If you would like a mural's guide and directory, they can be found at The Town of Stony Plain Administration building at 4905 - 51 Avenue during regular business hours of course. You don't need the guide to complete any of the mural caches in Stony Plain, nor will it provide you the answers to any of the questions posed within the individual mural listing cache pages, however it is a nice keepsake. Have fun!!

THE TIE-IN!

MURAL#1

The coordinates for the first mural in this stage is N53 32.241 and W114 00.197, leading you to the "Celebrate Rotary" mural celebrating the 100th anniversary of Rotary International as founded by Paul Harris in 1905.

Now look at this mural carefully ... all three sections. You will see an 'inset' picture saying "Stony Plain Charter Night" and then a year behind it. Take note of the year, with the first number being represented by an 'A', the second number a 'B', the third a 'C' and the last number being 'D'.

MURAL#2

Now to get to the next mural, you need to project a waypoint from the first mural (CBD+4) metres at ABB degrees True (make sure your GPS is set to 'True' NOT 'Magnetic'). This should now give you coordinates for the 2nd mural in this series.

Now without giving away this murals name, once you arrive you will find numerous images of Stony Plain's Main Street from many years ago - a beautiful image!

Now look at this mural carefully ... there is an advertisement from the Stony Plain Reporter about 'Shur Grain Milling Mash'. There is a weight (in pounds) noted in the advertisement ... containing three digits. Let the first digit be 'E', the second digit be 'F' and the last digit be 'G'.

MURAL#3

Now to get to mural number 3 in this series, project a waypoint (from mural #2) at (EFG-FGG) metres at (GE x 3) degrees True.

O/K ... you're halfway there now, standing in front of mural #3 in this series. You may have noticed other murals on your way over here - no worries as you will be visiting them at some point in your overall journeys if you finish all of the mural multi's in town.

Now mural #3 in this series is a relatively small mural depicting something very commonplace in small towns 100 years ago, but with all the new-fangled electronics is no more ... too bad!

Now study this mural and find the name 'Fred Schellenberger', Stony Plain. There is a code next to his name starting with an R and then followed by three digits. Let's call the middle digit 'H'.

MURAL#4

Here we go again ... project a waypoint ADF metres at (AGH + FH) degrees True. Still with me, hope you brought your calculator or a large piece of paper and pencil(s)!

Now you should be standing in front of the fourth mural in this series - a beautiful (aren't they all?) mural depicting a great man and his wife who practiced for over 45 years in Stony Plain. In the mural, there is a cart being pulled by a number of horses ... how many? Add 1 to this number and let's call that total 'I'.

MURAL#5

Now project a waypoint IGH metres at FAH degree's True to lead you to the final mural in this series.

Whew ... you've arrived at the last mural in this series - congratulations, it's been quite an adventure and you almost have all the information you require to plug in the numbers to locate the actual cache. You should be standing in front of a very colorful mural with numerous farming scenes. Now there is a notice with a picture of a trophy on it ... It says "Alberta Stock and Grain Judging Competition", Team **** .. a four digit number. Now take this number and subtract 1905 from it to give you a single digit number represented by 'J'.

THE ORGANIZER!

Well now you have everything you need to plot the coordinates and then find the actual cache location. The cache coordinates are ...

North 53 IA.DJH ...... West 113 GB.AFF

Now go find the cache - it will be an ammo can (replaced June 8 with a medium sized lock n lock) and has an FTF prize with it. The cache itself will be initially stocked with the usual swag - so please trade accordingly.

THE KICKER!
Hope you enjoyed your travels to find this one and please take note of the clue(s)? in each cache in order to find the bonus cache and .... perhaps .... The Surprise Cache?

Once you've completed the five sets of mural caches and jotted down the clues (write down everything) you should be able to find the bonus cache which will be chock full of some great stuff and of course an FTF and perhaps more - see the listing for more information.

Then with additional information from the bonus cache (and all the other caches ... remember jot down EVERYTHING) ... perhaps decipher the requirements for the final surprise cache - no clues for that one - will take some thinking to come up with those coordinates! Although, by going to the related cache page, there will be a bit of a hint.
