The Black Marauder On Patrol in the RBG

This cache is placed in memory of our Grandpa and Dad….

See, he had this great black ‘bathing cap’ that he wore, back when men were men (but obliged in public pools to cover their heads)….. and just for fun, he would sometimes plunk it on his head, drape a towel around his shoulders, and attack our backyard blow-up pool as ….. THE BLACK MARAUDER !!!!

When I was a kid and desperate to go on an adventure, my Dad would pick a series of nearby street addresses at random, and send me out on my bike armed with a map. My mission was to report back on a specific feature of each house that he had picked….. ‘the front door color of 21 Collingwood Place’ or ‘the number of windows at 54 Calendar Road’.......

not a long ways off geocaching today….

What we’ve done is to turn that around a bit.

To find the Black Marauder, you’re going to have to go to a few coordinates in the Westdale area, and once at each coord, use a clue to acquire a specific house number. Those house numbers will provide the location of the cache.

Final Cache Coordinates

N 43 16.ABC W 079 54.CAD

Start at the published coords, then walk, bike, blade or drive ...... as you like..... to get the numbers. Once you've searched the numbers out, return to the trailhead at the cache page coordinates (N 43° 15.941 W 079° 54.527), for a 200 meter walk down into the RBG trails.

While hiking in the Royal Botanical Gardens, please stay on open trails at all times. They allow us to place caches on their grounds provided we stick to that simple rule.

There is a closed trail, with some fencing in poor repair and a fallen log across it, near the cache, please stay off this closed trail.

If you were to continue along the way you arrived on (Caleb's Walk) it leads to the main East West Trail through this area, and with a right turn there, you could make an easy loop of another 15 minutes or so back to Parking. Just doing the cache itself, including walking the beginning bit, should average less than 45 minutes.

Also please feel free to leave stories about your Dad/Grandpa....

Dad/Grandpa loved the whole idea of finding a bit of adventure whenever possible, even if it was just riding your bike to a street you hadn’t been on before…. so in a small way, in our memories and with this cache, he rides on as….

The Black Marauder….
