Geocache Description:

An area steeped in history, but retains few tangible assets. Modern buildings populate this once mighty ship building area, and with the return of the Nomadic to Belfast, centennial preparations are underway to beautify the area and restore the few remaining links to the past.

Take a gentle stroll around the Thompson Graving Dock where the Titanic was fitted out.

!!! There are deep holes (docks) and deep water and in the area. They have railings around them, but be careful of youngsters, pets and belongings!!!

This is a multi-stage cache but there are no further coordinates. Go to the coordinates provided and look at the length, and just think that in 1911 the bow of the Titanic would have been about 40 feet or more above your head. Walk along the right hand side towards the water and read the information boards to get the data necessary to answer the questions below, and thus find the cache.

Having found the answers, the cache can be found at the following location nearby:
N54 3A.BCD
W05 5E.FGH

Now for the fun/educational part...

A the number of 30 tonne capstains multiplied by the number of 11 tonne capstains.

B how many thousand cubic yards of granite were used in the construction of the dock? Add the digits together.

C by how many feet was the dock extended? The middle digit = C

D regarding the sea trials, multiply the day in the month they took place by the duration in days.

E the day in February when the Titanic entered the dock.

F the base of the retaining wall was how thick? The decimal = F

G how long was the dock before the 'extension'. The hunreds = G

H For the sea trial, divide the average speed by the duration.

To check you have the correct information, add the values of the letters from A to H. These should equal 52.

The cache is 35mm film cannister. Please replace it carefully.

At the time of placing, the cache held an unregistered geopin (FTF PRIZE), a bracelet charm and the obligitory marble. Not really designed for swops, but you are welcome to try.

Might try for a few more in the area, there should be plenty of scope.

NOTE: THE CACLULATION OF D WAS WRONG FOR THE FIRST PEOPLE WHO TRIED TO FIND THIS. I HAVE AMENDED THE DATA TO GIVE A CORRECT DIGIT. And again.
