Mulga Breakaway is one of many caches on the Outback Way-finder Trail - the longest Geocache Trail in the world.
G'day Geocachers,
Mulga Breakaway cache is located in a magnificent 'breakaway' or
'jump-up' landscape where a hard lateritic rock crust has formed a large flat area while the softer edges have eroded away. The resulting cliffs, caves, pinnacles and gullies result in a spectacularly diverse landscape which changes character through the seasons and during each day.
Please don't approach the edge of the breakaway as it may be undercut and unstable.
The cache contains items with an outback theme, one of over 30 similar caches located along the Outback Way between Laverton, WA and Winton, Qld. Good luck finding them all.
Activity: Note how few species of vegetation are adapted to grow at the top of a breakaway. The mulga is a species of acacia (wattle) that is very hardy and grows where little else can survive. Find out more about the wonderful mulga. How do you think it was used by the Aboriginals, pastoralists and the early explorers? Leave your answers in the logbook.
