Calthorpe House Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

winglen: We needed to either perform maintenance on the cache or archive it. It's been there a while, and frankly it's an unremarkable hide from our very early days so it's time to archive it and free up the space.

Geocache Description:

This cache overlooks the rooftop of historic Calthorpe House on Mugga Way, Red Hill. The house was built in 1927, and is one of the few remaining historic houses in Canberra. Calthorpe House has not been extended or renovated, and original furnishings, appliances and photos survive to tell the story of family life in the early days of Canberra. The garden layout also remains in its original condition.
Unlike its grander neighbours along Mugga Way, Calthorpe does not have a swimming pool or tennis court, but it does boast an air raid shelter built during the worrying days of World War Two when attack upon Australia seemed a very real possibility.
The cache is placed to mark the 80th birthday of Calthorpe House, celebrated last weekend. The cache contains a collection of small swaps, and a coin whose mission is to be the first coin in a cache. I hope you enjoy the cache, and Calthorpe House and views over central Canberra. This is an easy walk and can be approached a number of ways.
