Darkness Falls Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Damned Rodan: I hate to do it, but I'm archiving this cache because the recent destruction of the Greensboro trails to make way for soccer fields and such has claimed the final stage. Given the labor-intensive task of rerouting stages and finding at least one new location, I'm putting it to bed. Thanks to all who've visited this one in its various incarnations. Pity, as this one was a classic in its day.

Geocache Description:

A LONG TIME AGO, IN THE WOODS FAR AWAY...

Well, not that long ago and not necessarily far away... a Sith Lord known to all as Darth Sketcher began hiding caches that would have other cachers gnashing their teeth and tearing out their hair. He was mysterious; a master of devious hide methods. Darkness Falls ranked among his most challenging — a five-stage NIGHT CACHE, requiring considerable time and travel to complete. After several years, Darkness Falls indeed fell to time and the elements, but its spirit is being revived by the somewhat less devious and perhaps not-at-all clever apprentice, Damned Rodan. Be that as it may, attempting this cache during daylight will almost certainly result in a humiliating dashing of your hopes.

This cache is divided into five (5) different ‘planets’ or stages. The point of entry for each stage is up to you, but if you are observant, near each search area you will find reflectors, which have been strategically placed to help you muddle through. Certain of the containers include more than one piece of information; be sure to record all the data, or you may find yourself stymied even if you successfully reach the final stage.

Stage 1: Tatooine. At this site, you will find one (1) reflector stuck on one side of a tree. When you locate this tree, look around to find two (2) reflectors. At the base of a nearby tree is a camouflaged pill bottle. Inside, you will find documentation to help you discover the next stage. Do not be fooled or become complacent — while this first stage may seem easy, the Sith have endeavored to make your journey onward ever more difficult.

Stage 2: Coruscant. Look for a tree with a two different types of reflectors on it. Continue into the woods until you see a large tree bearing two reflectors, and, next to it, a smaller tree with a single reflector. A few feet beyond you will find your quarry. The container is a black micro.

Stage 3: Mustafar. Here, you must find the tree with two (2) reflectors on it. These will help guide you into the search area, where you will see three (3) trees, each bearing a single reflector. The container is not located on any of these, but it lurks very nearby. The container is no higher than 7 feet and is not on the ground.

Stage 4: Hoth is the stage before the final. When you arrive at the site, you will be looking for three (3) reflectors situated very close to the trail to help guide you in. You will find the container within thirty feet or so of these three reflectors; once you locate it, you will have to figure out how to retrieve it. Study how it is set up, and then figure out what you need to do from there.

Stage 5: Endor (updated 01/15/17). This is the final stage. The location has recently been altered by the Empire — the original parking area and trail head are gone, replaced by three soccer fields (handy for training new stormtroopers, no doubt) and a large parking area. The current coordinates will place you at a trail head with signs to the various soccer fields. Follow the signs that read "To fields 1–11," at which point you will see a series of white reflectors. These reflectors lead you to pavement and a trail sign pointing the way to the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Follow the paved drive in the direction indicated until you reach the next Mountains-to-Sea trail head sign, where the reflector path will continue. At some points, the trail meanders away from the final coordinates, but stay on it until you come to a tree with TWO white reflectors on it. There you will need to venture into the woods, following the path of reflectors. When you see THREE reflectors on one tree, you are within thirty feet of the final stage.

The Sith knew that numerous adventurers would come searching for this, so they took precautions to protect the contents of the container. The container is an ammo can, its log secured in a way that requires you to use the information you have gathered at other stages.

Note: Remember to take all necessary precautions while caching at night. Please re-hide each stage exactly as you found it, so the next brave adventurers will face the same daunting challenges as you. Have fun, and may the force be with you.

Congrats to Ranger Fox and Histryboy, FTF (2007/08/05).
