Independence Trail is a great road. Starting here, the first building you see is the old stone library. If you then continue up Independence Trail you come to the very romantic Highland Haven. This road is a fantastic little used paved road that goes straight up the mountain. There are tight switchbacks. It's a great road for riding your bike and getting a good workout. Since you're in the area, take a short drive up the road and see the spectactular views.
