Geocache Description:

A VERY short multi near a historic landmark in Erbenheim.

The Erbenheimer Warte (Erbenheim Watchtower) is one of several
watchtowers that were built in this area by the Archbishop of Mainz
to guard the northern approach to the main bridge across the Rhein
at Mainz-Kastel.

This tower has been maintained and is in very good condition,
even maintaining its conical roof -- the Bierstadter Warte was not
so lucky. The front door to the tower is not original; the entrance
to the tower was formerly accessed only by ladder to ease in its
defense -- in case of attack, the tower garrison could simply pull
up the ladder and wait for help to come from the south.

The tower is located just off the B455, not far off the A66 or
A671 and right near the Fort Biehler bus stop (Line 28). Parking is
available at stage 1, and the final is a short walk away.

Stage 1: The Tower
Look for a bronze plaque on the tower. In what year was the tower
built? Add the digits together for X.
Near the tower, there is a milestone with precise distances to
Mainz and Kastel. How far is it to Mainz? This number is
Y.

Final: N 50° 02.[(X * 25) + 5]
E 008° (11.969 + Y)

The cache is a small blue Lock & Lock box. It is illegal to
stop on the highway, and you do not need to go onto the highway to
retrieve the cache. The cache is not far from the B455, but
children should be OK, as long as they stay on the tower side of
the earth wall between the cache site and the road. This cache is
in a residential area, so please be respectful and remain out of
sight.

This cache was originally established as a geocoin exchange. After
a number of geocoins were stolen from another coin exchange of ours,
we decided that we no longer wanted to be responsible for others losing
their coins.

So: if you would like to leave a coin or TB, please do so. But if you find
a coin or TB in the cache, feel free to take it on its mission, even if you
have no coin or TB to leave.

Congratulations to Don Cerebro for the first to find!
