WELCOME TO MIDDLE FORK FALLS
There is a pretty big gravel parking area right off the road. If your vehicle sits low to the ground you might want to be careful pulling in. The coordinates above are for the parking area
Once your at the parking area, follow a very short (maybe 20ft), flat trail to these coordinates N36 03.343 W084 26.417 to complete the requirements for the Earthcache.
This is the Middle Fork Little Emory River. It cuts a small canyon between brushy and little brushy mountains before reaching this location. It’s hard to believe that this beautiful waterfall is so close to the road but hidden very well.
To get the view pictured below, you need to take a short (100ft), steep trail to the base.
The above picture was taken by me last Spring (2006). We are in a pretty severe drought right now so there isn’t as much water flow. There’s still enough water flowing for nice pictures though!
As with most of my Earthcaches, I want everyone to be able to enjoy them. Whether elderly, young, or disabled, I try to give coordinates for the easiest possible way in. There is always a way to get a better view but it may not be for everyone. Please use you best judgment when deciding which vantage point you’d like to take.
Waterfalls occur where a band of harder rock crosses the path of a river. The river is less able to erode this harder rock and leaves it as a step in the river's long profile. See the image below for a visual reference of how waterfalls work.

To get credit for this Earthcache you must email me the answers to the following questions:
(1) Take a picture of yourself and/or your group with GPS at the second set of coordinates with the smaller, upper falls in the background.
(2) At this same spot, estimate the distance between the upper falls and Middle Fork Falls.
(3) Using the image above which shows the different types of falls, tell me which type you think Middle Fork Falls is?
This cache can't be done at night unless I can clearly see you in the picture. Please don't post your answers in your log.
