Geocache Description:

... and believe me it is not a pretty sight.

Actually this is a tribute cache. And why did my closest caching "buddy" require such an "honour"? Well the reasons why a tribute was in order were two-fold. First, at the time of setting the cache, he was the only geocacher to have done all 73 of my previous caches (no-one else had done more than about 40), FTFing a good number of them. Second, he was on a streak (although admittedly only 6 of my caches were in the first 99 caches of the streak): see (visit link)

Here a streak means a run of consecutive days finding at least one cache per day. On the day the cache was set, Gary's streak was in the 90s and he was set to hit 100 days straight on Tuesday 17th July 2007. So I set a cache in honour of this event. Gary promised that this cache would be found on his 100th streak day (even though he hadn't solved it at the time, I knew he could do it on schedule).

Gary's challenge was a) to keep his streak going and b) to solve this puzzle by 17th July 2007 (a few days after the cache was set).

***Of course, Gary managed this feat on time, many congratulations***

The initial challenge was to get to the cache before the above date and so rob Gazzer of the FTF.

***Congratulations to parmstro for grabbing the FTF before Gary's 100th day of streaking.***

Now it's just a "straight" puzzle cache.

The cache is not at the published coordinates, which lie close to the appropriately named (in this context) "Logmore Lane".

You must decipher the following message

pltoczhgwwpltdrnbznxklhnplnwmipvztmk

which has been enciphered using a cipher beloved of geocachers. They key required for deciphering is the name of the person who is allegedly depicted in this picture.

I have added a couple of little twists to make it a bit harder. The decoded message will take you close to a smallish sign bearing four forenames and a month. Write the four forenames in the order they appear and then the month (without spaces). Then, delete the final character and this will give you a 23 letter key. This second key must be used in the field to decipher the directions for the final cache which are contained in the following ciphertext.

OCKBFhGHBjFQLTjXDMbFxKp

The encipherment here uses a one-time pad, and the upper and lower case is significant. For details of how such a cipher works, see Ian Too's excellent geocache:
