Geocache Description:

Fans of the 1986 film 'Highlander' will immediatly recognise Eilean Donan Castle in Loch Duich as Connor MacLeod's home. Or you may know it from the Bond film 'The World is Not Enough', 1996's Loch Ness, Made of Honor or many TV programmes or adverts. Even if you're not a fan of the film/s, you'll find the cache location takes you to a great vantage point to see a unique view of what's been called 'the most photographed castle in Scotland'. It's certainly on many boxes of Shortbread!

A view of Eilean Donan Castle from Highlander

Finding the cache: Just before (or just after, if travelling towards Skye) the castle is a turning signposted Dornie. Take this road, and watch for a small lane on the right, signposted 'Carr Brae View Point'. A little way up this road is a good place to park (just 500ft/150m from the cache), with a nice view of the castle. Walk a little way up the road, beyond the first telegraph pole, and look for a silver gate on your left. This gives access to a little-used path that runs up the hill behind the road. This is steep and can be boggy, so wear boots.

22.5.18 update: Despite being a challenging cache to reach -I feel for the mudphobics - this now has 339 Favorite Points and is maintaining that 37%; really appreciated folks. Thanks for looking after the box and helping to keep it dry (it is Scotland, after all). I hear there's a reboot of the film coming. I wonder if they'll be back to film here..?

22.5.17 update: Oh wow, over 300 Favorite Points! Thanks so much everyone. This cache has climbed to 37% - which is amazing - and now seems to be Scotland's 5th most Fav'd cache after Britain's highest Geocache (459/54%), Arthur's Seat Earthcache (362/34%), Wolfing it in the West End (345/21%), and St. Andrew Square (318/14%). Woop!

14.5.15 update: Thank you for all the Favorite Points! It's really appreciated and I'm very glad you've enjoyed this special location. You've helped make this cache Scotland's 4th most 'Favorited' with 227 (34%) FPs, trailing Britain's highest Geocache with 323 FPs (51%), Arthur's Seat Earthcache with 271 FPs (33%) and St. Andrew Square with 250 FPs (16%)!

Thank you too for your photos. Two favourite recent(ish) ones by Momo ;o) are below. Then there's AliceSmith907's great pic, followed by a shot by Finlay & His Drudge, on their 2000th find. Or the shot below it by Kiltrock from 2012, or the one below that by Lasse & Tobi in 2016. Also 2016, a vintage-looking shot by HenHart1. 2017's TeamViper's spring shot below that. Highlanders in kilts by TEAM DL8EBW and Axxis64! Below that 2018 pics by aninymoose and quaffle- who gets a big Congratulations from me! As does anyone who gets engaged here or while caching in general [<3] Next shot by Milvus-Milvus and the final one by bredud_lux.
