A Walk Through Banff History Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Tracker Bob: The cache is missing and I've decided not to replace it as many of the items in the original cache are not replaceable. Thanks to local Banff resident, Josh, who happened to find the log book in the middle of Buffalo Street contacted me to return it. It must have been dropped or discarded by whomever decided to abscond with the cache. The other parts of the cache are missing in action. Hard to imagine why anyone would feel compelled to take a cache when clearly the only value is the discovery and exchange that happens with geocachers. I'm sorry it's come to this as this was a very active cache with many participants over the 16 months it was in action. Thanks, happy caching.

Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden a short way from a location where you can park a car. Geocachers are encouraged to participate in a longer walk once they find the cache and pick up a map of the path of the original walk.

This geocache was created as an event in conjunction with the “Imaginary Places” thematic residency at the Banff Centre. The cache was created as part of a 5 km public participation "guided" walk addressing history of the area intermingled with stories of fictional persons and events. The cache consists of the fragments of stories told, along with Polaroid photos referencing the various points of interest along the path of the walk.

This is a thematic cache and geocachers are encouraged to exchange "treasures" pertaining to history, walking, and/or environmental issues. The cache is in a brown rubbermaid container.

The following items were part of the cache when it was placed:
- log book in baggie
- 3 pencils and 1 pen
- disposable camera in baggie so geocachers can take a picture of themselves with the cache (return the camera to the cache)
- 12 "Ministry of Walking" buttons
- info brochures about the walk (with map)
- 12 packets of history (in baggies): story fragment and Polaroid from each point of interest along the way created during the original walk.
