This adventure will take you on a hike into the Northern section of the Slickrock area. This cache is hidden near The Lower Falls of SlickRock Creek. SlickRock Trail #42 is a 13.3 mile trail that winds thru the mountains of this remote area on the TN/NC border. One end of the trail is on Naked Ground and the other is near Cheoah Dam. The shortest route to the cache is from the Dam, which is just past Tapoca Lodge on US 129 north of Robbinsville. You will notice white diamond blazes as you begin your journey. These are for the Benton Mackaye trail which overlaps Trail #42 for a ways. When you get to the intersection of Ike Branch #45, stay straight and continue on SlickRock #42. At about the 1.6mi point you will turn up the SlickRock Creek. The trail will get much rougher in spots. The distance from parking to the cache is right at 3 mi (one way). At about a quarter mile before the cache you will have to cross SlickRock creek. Keep this in mind, if it's rainy weather. The cache container will only hold small trade items. Hope you enjoy this beautiful area as much as we did.
