Geocache Description:

This is a series of 4 caches plus a bonus cache, set in the beautiful Tamar Valley, in the area known as Hatchwood. It has been designed so that the 4 caches and then the bonus, can all be done in a circular route of approximately 5km, and it should take less than 2 hours. The co-ordinates listed above are not for the cache, but for the suggested parking for the series.

This series offers something for everyone. In each of the 4 caches, you will find information that you will need to copy down in order to help you find the bonus cache. Please ensure that each cache is left exactly as you find it, and that the bonus information is left in each cache. This area is popular with walkers, so please exercise stealth whilst hunting for the caches, particularly on Chimney Rock Ramble 1, 4 and the Bonus.

The Tamar Valley is well known for it's historical mining activities, and the route passes many of these remains. It also takes in Chimney Rock, from the top of which, on a good day, fantastic views of the River Tamar and across the valley to Gunnislake can be had. The route also briefly follows a short section of the Tamar Valley Discovery Trail.

As many of the paths and tracks that link the caches are not found on an Ordnance Survey map, we have provided below Way Points and Directions at the major junctions for the route we suggest you take between all the caches. The entire route traverses above and below a very steep slope, so although your GPS may suggest there is a more direct route between the caches, this definitely would not be recommended, unless you have a parachute in your rucksack!

If it's not too wet, this route is suitable for all-terrain pushchairs - that's if you've got the stamina to push it up the hills and the bottle to ride it down them!

The Final Cache can be found at N50 AB. CDE, W004 FG. HIJ

Don't forget to copy down all the information at each of the 4 Caches.

We walked this route 3 times with 2 different GPS systems, and each time we got slightly different co-ordinates due to the tree cover and the angle of the slope - so you may need the clues and the spoiler photos to find the cache locations (particularly the final). Wellies (or shoes you don't mind getting wet and muddy) would also be a good choice in footwear, particularly towards the end of the series, plus a torch.
