Geocache Description:

Parking at around N56° 02.600’ W04° 40.800’

I suppose you’ve all seen the plain vanilla sudokus but have you all had a go at the killer variant? I find them more fun having already seen all the possible combinations of normal sudokus.

The killer type follows the normal sudoku rules in that each row, column and nonet (small square of 9) has to contain all the numbers from 1 to 9. The trouble with killers is that you don’t get any numbers to start with but you do get ‘cages’ of numbers to complete. The small number at the top left of each cage is the sum of all the numbers in the cage. Numbers can not be repeated within a cage. Start with high or low value cages that only have one possible combination of numbers. e.g. a two square cage with the sum of 17 can only be made up by 8 + 9 but which way round? That’s where your logic has to come in. Some cages have lots of potential combinations e.g. for a sum of 13 over two squares the answer could be 9 + 4, 8 + 5 or 7 + 6, these have to be deduced by elimination.

The puzzle attached was made by me as my first attempt so isn’t very elegant (no real symmetry) but I would rate it at a difficulty level of around 3 or 4 out of 10 so good luck!

Once you’ve finished the puzzle. Simply replace the values from the cells for A to F in the coordinates in the normal way. The cache is within 500 m of the parking area.

N56° 02.ABC’ W04° 40.DEF’

Remember, the sum of all the numbers (1 to 9) in any row, column or nonet is 45. This is one of the most useful rules to get you started with this particular puzzle.

The views from here, the top of the Glen Fruin road are pretty good down to Loch Lomond and also W/SW. You can even see the top of the big stack at Wemyss Bay which is about 13 miles away.
