THE ISLE OF SCARBA...
...is a large barren and uninhabited island.
Covering an area of 1474 ha (3642 acres), the island of Scarba has
the appearance of a mountain top rising from the seabed. It reaches
a peak at a height of 449m (1473 feet). Scarba is predominantly
covered in heather (Calluna vulgaris) and has a sizeable number of
red deer, wild goats and otters. Also domestic sheep and Luing
cattle are grazed here.

HISTORY
Settlement was concentrated on the eastern flank
of the island. In 1797 there were fourteen families on the island.
In 1845 only two gamekeeper and their families were the sole
occupants. Now the only permanent buildings are Kilmory Lodge (N56
11.366 W05 41.117) , the occasional home of the owner of the
island, and an outward bound centre located at Bagh Gleann a'Mhaoil
at the south (N56 10.233 W05 41.061).
THE CACHE...
...is located at the rocky south coast of Scarba
near the Corryvreckan Whirlpool (visit link).
If you go for a hike on the island you can have a beautiful view to

picture 3). From there you will find the cache in a distance of
1200m. But if you like to have a great view to the Isle of Jura,
you should visit this point: N56 10.045 W5 43.110 (see picture 4).
From there it's only 830m to the cache.
A good landing point for small boats at the south coast of Scarba
is at Bagh Gleann a'Mhaoil at N56 10.154 W5 40.945 (see picture
