Geocache Description:

Near the woods south of the village of Elsworth by the side of the public footpath. Standard walking terrain.

This cache is dedicated to the Thomas The Tank Engine books, as Elsworth was the place where many of the earlier ones were written. The author was Reverend Wilbert Awdry, (visit link) Rector of Elsworth and Knapwell 1946-1953, who had told the stories to amuse his son Christopher when he was ill.

The name of one of the stations in the books is Elsbridge, a name related to Elsworth, which never had a railway line. In the books Elsbridge (visit link) is near Knapford (visit link) much as Elsworth is near Knapwell (visit link)

The local clay can bring even good boots to a halt, when the weather is wet this is a muddy walk, when dry it can occasionally still be remarkably muddy. Dry day (visit link) Wet day (visit link) As with most walks in this part of the world vicious aggressive stinging nettles can also be expected from April to October (visit link) Leaves from the dock plant are known for their ability to relieve the pain from the stings of nettles (visit link) And bear in mind it is easy to fall into a drainage ditch when it is covered with undergrowth...
