Geocache Description:

Our teacher introduced us to geocaching. Not only did we geoocache with her after school, but many homework assignments were designed around this activity. This is the third in our Homework Assignment series. Our teacher started her class with a daily journal assignment. Now that the end of the year is approaching we had a final culminating activity. We had to write a detailed autobiography using past journals to guide us. Since this assignment was a major one, our teacher suggested that we do some research to make sure our writing was exemplary. She suggested a book entitled: Your Life As a Story. She said there would also be others on the shelf that would give us some good ideas. Our school library didn't have it so we went to the nearest public library. We know that no excuses for late assignments would be accepted. The coordinates for this cache will take you to the entrance of this library. NOTE: The library was at first closed during the pandemic, then reopened with adjusted hours. The library will be moving to a new location in the next few years. The first public library to serve the Broad Ripple neighborhood opened its door on December 15, 1930 in a storefront building on East 63rd Street. Eight years later it moved to the first floor of the Masonic Lodge Building on Guilford Avenue. The first building constructed as a library for the Broad Ripple community opened on March 28, 1949 adjacent to School 80. In order to accommodate an increase in patronage, the library moved to a new building in Broad Ripple Park in 1986. Oncle again the library needed to grow but there was no space in the park to expand. On October 23, 2000, the library opened its doors to the public in the Glendale Mall, becoming the Glendale Branch Library. It is the country's first full-service library in a major shopping mall. This cache was placed with permission from the branch manager and she eagerly awaits your arrival.

Current hours to retrieve this cache: Monday-Tuesday 10-8; Wednesday-Friday 10-6; Saturday 10-5 pm; Sunday 1-5 pm. Don't forget a writing utensil so you can do your homework! Special bookmark for FTF.

SPECIAL NOTE: This cache was placed by a very special cacher, who taught at Broad Ripple HS before it closed, and taught her students and many others about geocaching. Sadly, she passed away in 2020. I adopted her caches; this was one of her favorites. You can read more about her here
