Geocache Description:

This cache can be approached from the Benarty Heratige Trail from Lochore or Lochore Meadow or by the lazy way, (which I used when planting!), by driving along Torres Loan from Cardenden. The cache is a lock n’ seal container containing the usual goodies.

This cairn measures about 80' in diameter, but its surface is ragged and reduced. This results from partly organised and quite unorganised attacks upon it in 1890-1, before which the height was reported to have been in excess of 20'. The digging "brought to light the foundations of a wall surrounding the cairn"; and "on driving a broad trench" into the body of the monument, a cist was revealed 21' from the perimeter. This contained a food vessel, teeth and bones. Another cist was encountered at the centre, its joints luted with clay. This contained teeth, bones and "an unmistakable strip of metal" which was oxidised beyond recovery. A third cist was found in a similar position to the first but several feet further N. This contained a food vessel with five lug handles and was otherwise crammed with bones. The cist with the metal was probably the primary deposit; the report suggests that it had been robbed previously.

Enjoy the views over Lochore and Benarty from the 3 giants seats!
