Geocache Description:

Back in 2004, SLAGA hosted, or was part of, several "Caching and Camping Weekends." It's been a while since the last one, but that tradition continues with a new series of events this summer. Here then is:

Caching and Camping Weekend (June 2007):
Table Rock State Park

When: June 15, 16, and 17, 2007

Where: We will meet at Table Rock State Park (near Branson, MO) at my campsite #125.  My campsite will be considered "home base" for the event cache this weekend.  Make your reservations early for the campground or a nearby hotel.  Warning:  Campground #2 is currently experiencing some construction work and water/electric sites in that campground do not seem to be available.  There are primitive campsites in Campground #2 and there were several water/electric/sewer sites available in Campground #1 when I reserved my campsite today (April 22nd).  Other Warning:  All Missouri state parks are issuing a firewood alert.  Something about firewood containing pests from other states.  The alert requests people burn all firewood before they leave or just buy firewood at the park. Just beware of the warning if you are bringing firewood into the park.

What: This will be a weekend of camping, caching, and socializing with friends new and old.  There will be an informal meet and greet Friday night, a full day of caching activities on Saturday, and "tearful" goodbyes on Sunday.  Along the way, we will hold "TB Swaps" and story telling sessions which will inform, enlighten, and most of all entertain cachers in attendance.  With all of these activities, it might be easy to lose sight of the real purpose of this event.  Therefore, allow me to clearly state the purpose of this event:  we are meeting to discuss geocaching hunting and hiding techniques and tactics.  Think of this event as a summarizing wrap-up of the Geocaching 201 class to be held in Springfield, MO earlier in the day.  You will be able to learn about Geocaching techniques in the morning, practice those techniques in the afternoon, and then discuss the results of your learning in the evening at this event.  Then I should state the following:
To log this event cache, you must attend the Saturday Night Crackerbarrel Campfire Session!!!
Camping and Caching Weekend (June 2007) Schedule
June 15 - Arrive at the park and setup camp on your own.  An informal Crackerbarrel Campfire Strategy Planning and Bull Session will end the day at Campsite #125.  The Campfire will be around dark or 9 pm.
June 16 - A full day of caching with the group.  Of course, there is nothing which requires you to stay with the group, but group caching is fun and it is a way to bond with your fellow cachers. At some point, probably between 10am and noon, I'm going to head to another geocaching event in the area. The Ozark Mountain Geocachers are setting up a Geocaching 201 class in Springfield. It would be nice to see a large St. Louis group attend her event. Again, a Crackerbarrel Campfire at Campsite #125 (or the best place to hold it) will close this full day of geocaching fun.  Remember, to log this event cache, you must attend this Crackerbarrel Campfire session!
June 17 - Pack up and return home.  Caching on this day will be "on your own."  Of course, informal groups are encouraged to get together and cache as they return to their respective homes, but what you do and what caches you find will be up to you!

What caches will we find:  As previously mentioned, the Saturday night Crackerbarrel will be the main mandatory event.  While there will be at least one group caching trip during the weekend, caching will not be the main part of this event.  The group caching trip will be entirely optional.  A list of which caches the group will attempt to find during the group caching trip will be posted as a bookmark list at the top of this page at some future date.  At this time, I am open to suggestions about which caches we should attempt to find on Saturday.  Once the cache list is decided, I will post the bookmark list and someone else (if they don't mind) can optimize the list of caches to get the ideal route.  Streets and Trips would be good for this, but most mapping programs will do the same thing.

Who:  Any and all geocachers are welcome to attend this event.
