A handcrafted sign, perched upon the hillside along a country
road,
A peaceful Place Where, one may find solace…….
to wonder, ponder, and
DREAM.
While this is, in fact, one way the park has been described in
recent times-This is not
quite what the founder
had intended!
You see, within this tiny rural Park is a beautiful military
memorial. Why is it here?
The founder, a gentleman named Isaac, envisioned here a beautiful
memorial park overlooking the valley below. He began acquiring
parcels of land to establish the park and cemetery.
He then commissioned a grand memorial, to honor those who bravely
served of our country in times of war. This stately monument was
erected upon the twenty-five acre site. A Dedication was
held
September 14, 1935
attended by hundred of citizens and many local
dignitaries.
Sadly, before his vision became complete he, himself, passed
away.He was laid to rest in the park, along with his mother
Rosanna and sister Rebecca.
Though this benefactor’s wishes were evident, his noble plans were
nullified!
In 1939 His will was contested. The court ruled that the plans
could not proceed, because, no official organization was formed,
before his death, to oversee the development and care of the
memorial park. The judge further stated the executors and trustees
of his estate were not empowered to form such an
organization.
Later, in 1966 Greene county was able to obtain the park from a
relative
. A re-dedication ceremony was held
july
13,
1969
.
