Geocache Description:

The cache area is easy to find and there is a lot of parking. If you leave your car under the hill it's just a 5 min walk.

This hill has one of the most scenic views of the Karst area. On sunny and clear days you can see everything from the mount Nanos to Gradež/Grado and a nice overview of the gulf. On the top of the hill there is a church with a mighty wall built by the Slovene population for defence in the 15th century when the Turkish empire was trying to expand. On the same hill there are also the remains of the walls of a castellar, that existed already in the 12th century BC - in the Bronze ages and then also in the Iron ages. The church is dedicated to Mary's Assumption, and a Slovenian legend tells that an imprint of her foot can still be seen in a stone in the church courtyard. Starting from August 13th and to the 15th there is a feast where you can taste the good wine and the typical food (especially the "Kuhani štruklji" are a tasty sweet). On odd years on the last Sunday of August the Karstic wedding (Kraška ohcet) takes place here (unfortunately there will be no wedding also in 2017). A couple get's married in the traditional costume and with the ancient Slovenian wedding rites. On the way to the hill you can also find the previous minor border crossing Monrupino/Repentabor which is a nice change from the more crowded main border Fernetti/Fernetici. *20100829 After the cache went missing we have changed the cache location.
