This cache commemorates the Battle of Saint Gotthard
(Szentgotthárd) on August 1, 1664 between a Christian army led by
Montecuccoli and an Ottoman army led by Köprülü. The battle took
place in Western Hungary, near the Austrian-Hungarian border. The
Turks were defeated and the subsequent Peace of Vasvár meant the
end of the Turkish occupation of Hungary.
