Eglwys y Grog the little white washed church believed to be dated from the 13th or
14th century is where the original 6th century church once stood.
This Church of the Holy Cross was once a resting place for pilgrims travelling
between St David’s and Bardsey’s Holy island.
Behind the church stands Foel y Mwnt and at its summit it is 76m high.
On top of Foel y Mwnt once stood a great stone cross.
In 1155 The Flemings landed on the beach here only to
be defeated in a bloody battle by the Welsh.
After that every first Sunday in January was remembered by the playing of spectacular games.
This day is known as ’Sul Coch y Mwnt’ (Bloody or Red Sunday).
While here you may get a glimpse of the rare chough along with
peregrine falcons, buzzards, the stonechat and the jay.
As with all cliff paths care should be taken with children.
