Nercwys Forest 2 Traditional Geocache

This is one of a series of caches placed in these lovely woods. Tucked away a few miles from Mold we've previously only visited a small area of the forest and really enjoyed our stroll around as did many others on bikes, horses and their own two feet. A veritable maze of paths suitable for all 3 were to be found in the area and the caches could easily be done by bike. Be warned it can be very muddy.

Planting at this coniferous forest started in the late 1950s and there is currently a variety of conifer species here providing an excellent habitat for the local wildlife. Whilst here we saw buzzards, a kestrel, a fox and an extremely nosey little robin who was very interested in quite where we were hiding the cache. There is a huge array of animals here including Nightjars, Gold Crest, Coal Tits and Long Eared owls but the local population of Muntjac deer usually prove elusive with their excellent camouflage as do the Great Crested Newts near Llyn Ochyn.
Please ensure that you replace the cache carefully to avoid any damage to the area.
During your visit you may see some of the old farmsteads, mine buildings and quarry workings in the area.
On occasion there may be the need to temporarily suspend the caches when Forestry Commission work is being undertaken. Please check back to this page prior to visiting the cache to check it is still active and always avoid areas where any machinery / work is being undertaken.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU SIGN THE LOGBOOK WHEN YOU FIND THIS CACHE. WE WILL DELETE ANY LOGS WHERE THIS REQUIREMENT HAS NOT BEEN MET AS IT IS THE PROOF THAT YOU HAVE FOUND IT.
NOTE: 19TH SEPTEMBER. LOOKS LIKE THERE WILL BE OCCASSIONAL WORK GOING ON IN THE FOREST OVER THE WINTER. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU OBSERVE ANY FORESTRY SIGNS NEAR THE CACHE LOCATIONS.
