Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed by Cache U Nutter

An fairly steep walk near to Box Hill offering spectacular views over the Surrey countryside.

PLEASE NOTE GEOCACHING ON NATIONAL TRUST PROPERTY IS AT YOUR OWN RISK !! Mensa membership is not a requirement to reach this cache !! No puzzles or web site links required to find this cache, just an appreciation of the countryside and an interest in this strange man made feature.

If you screw up your eyes a little you could imagine being on the Greek mainland with an olive tree poking out of the top, but in reality its a rather cheeky yew !! Please do not attempt to climb into or onto the Tower as it is a listed building.

From the Whitehill car park (free) N51 15.787 W000 18.873 Take the bridleway on the right and follow for a few hundred yards until you see a stile on your left. At this point take the footpath on your right and ascend gradually, then take the 2nd footpath on your left.Climb the hill steeply to reach the tower. Alternatively, continue along the bridleway a little further and take the really steep steps on the right to join a path to the top (less impressive though).

Access from the National Trust centre  (Shop, cafe, toilets and chargeable car park) is possible and indeed is a fine walk, but you need to cross the Zig Zag road (twice) and the walk involves steep walking up and down 2 valleys. Approach from Burford Bridge also possible but not as enjoyable. AS AN ADDED CHALLENGE, see how many times you can traverse around the 40 ft pollarded tree/trunk in the car park. no need to climb more than a few feet off the ground]gloves may make things easier as I cut my hands a little on the bark.
