Geocache Description:

Kuka'imanini is Hawaiian for school of Manini, a small striped fish common in this area.

CAUTION! This cache may only be a few yards from the shore, but conditions could make the journey very treacherous. Attempt this cache at your own risk. Good swimming skills, a familiarity with tides, currents and waves, and experience in scrambling up slippery rocks are a must.

IF you could see the bottom, and IF you had "reef walkers" or slippers, and IF the tide was right, and IF the water was calm enough you could wade part way to this tiny island. As alluded to above, even though this is a short distance to cross, it could become more of an adventure then you would ever want. Do not attempt this if there large waves in the area and use great caution even if there are small waves. There is a small parking lot close to this island with another far safer geocache to find so this could be a twofer if you've never been in the area. I walked from this parking lot almost to the point closest to Kuka'imanini and snorkled across. Climbing onto the island is no easy chore. Landing close to a small cave (be happy I didn't put the cache in there) I gingerly crossed smooth slippery rocks that are right next to VERY sharp rocks. (Remember sharks can smell blood from a great distance.) A verticle wall, that was slippery at the bottom, was scaled to reach dry ground. Watch that first step. Remember you've got to come down the same way you went up. Some foot protectiion would have allowed me to explore the island better because of the sharp rocks. Tranquil and beautiful on a sunny day, I'd reccomend leaving this for another time if the weather was less than optimal.

One additional challenge - Bring a pen or pencil to sign the log.
