Een historisch landgoed.
Landgoed Beukenburg ligt ten oosten van Groenekan en grenst direct aan de bosgebieden van De Leyen en de Ridderoordse Bossen in De Bilt. Beukenburg is ongeveer 185 hectare groot waarvan grofweg de helft uit agrarische grond en de andere helft uit bos bestaat. Het bosoppervlak is opgebouwd uit hakhoutpercelen en uit opgaand parkbos met monumentale beukenlanen en oude beukenopstanden. Beukenburg is in de 17de eeuw ontstaan als herenboerderij met een uitgebreid landerijencomplex. In de 18de eeuw was al een groot deel van de gronden bebost voor de houtproductie. Rond 1810 ondergaat beukenburg een metamorfose: de herenboerderij maakt plaats voor een herenhuis en het park wordt in Engelse landschapsstijl aangelegd met slingerende paden, vijvers en bosschages. In de periode van 1890-1902 is het herenhuis verbouwd tot een groot landhuis, maar dit huis was geen lang leven beschoren. Na de Eerste Wereldoorlog bleek dat de opbrengst uit het landgoed te gering was om het grote landhuis in stand te kunnen houden. In 1925 werd het dan ook gesloopt.
A historic estate.
Estate Beukenburg lays east of Groenekan and it borders the wood areas of De Leyen and the Ridderoordse Bossen in De Bilt. Beukenburg is about 185 ha of which the half is agricultural land and the other half is woods. The wood area is partially commercial wood and also beautiful monumental beech lanes and old beech stacks. Beukenburg is grounded in the 17th century as a gentlemen farm with an extended estate. In the 18th century a great part of the land was already planted with trees for wood production. Around 1810 Beukenburg was undergoing a metamorphose: the gentlemen farm is pulled down and a mansion house was build. The park is changed in English landscape style with winding paths, ponds and bushes.
In the period 1890 – 1902 the mansion house is converted to a great manor, but this house did not exist long. After the first world war the earnings where to low to maintain the great house. In 1925 it was pulled down.
Ecoknoopunt
Beukenburg ligt in het grensgebied van de Utrechtse Heuvelrug, het Veenweidegebied en het Kromme Rijngebied. Door deze ligging vormt het een belangrijk ecologisch knooppunt. Het landgoed is nu reeds van belang als leefgebied voor de das, maar kan in de toekomst een uitvalsbasis worden van waaruit kolonisatie van andere terreinen in de omgeving plaatsvindt. In de nabijheid van het landgoed zijn al enkele faunapassages gerealiseerd, zodat dassen zonder gevaar van het ene gebied naar het andere kunnen trekken.
Er komen vele soorten vogels voor.
Ecojunction
Beukenburg lies in the border area of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, the Veenweidegebied and the Kromme Rijngebied. Because it is situated in this area it is an important ecological junction. The estate is now important as a living area of the badger. In the future it can become a base for colonisation of other territories in the surroundings. In the vicinity of the estate are already some fauna passages realised, so the badgers can go from one area to the other without danger. There are also many species of birds.
