De (eerste) Maasvlakte is een enorm industriegebied dat
aangelegd is in zee Het maakt deel uit van de Rotterdamse haven, en
hoort tot de gemeente Rotterdam, alhoewel de stad Rotterdam ruim 40
kilometer verderop ligt.
The (first) Maasvlakte is a gigantic
industrial area, regained from the sea. It is part of the Port of
Rotterdam and belongs to the City of Rotterdam although the city
itself is 40 kilometers further land inwards.
De Maasvlakte is in de jaren zestig gebouwd en in 1973 legde het
eerste containerschip aan. De Maasvlakte is gebouwd door het leggen
van een ringdijk en daarbinnen werd zand opgespoten. Dit vormt nu
de bodem van de Maasvlakte. In het zand zitten nog veel fossielen.
Het gebied is daarom populair bij fossielenzoekers. Naast 2 grote
containerterminals is er een distributiecentrum gevestigd, een
groot tankopslag bedrijf, een kolenoverslag & een
energiecentrale.
| The Maasvlakte was built in the 60's and
in 1973 the first container vessel moored. The Maasvlakte is built
by putting a ringdike in place in which sand was pumped. This is
now the floor of the Maasvlakte. In the sand you can still find a
lot of fossiles. The Maasvlakte is therefore very popular for
fossile hunters. Besides 2 large container terminals, there are
distribution centres, tankterminals, a powerplant and an
oreterminal.

At the Maastvlakte the higway A15 and
the railroad connection 'Betuwelijn' to Germany begins.
De haven van Rotterdam ontwikkelt zich sinds 1400 in hoog tempo.

Op de Maasvlakte staat een vuurtoren.
On the Maasvlakte, you'll
find a lighthouse.
Deze toren is de laatste grote kustvuurtoren die in Nederland is
gebouwd. Hij is opgetrokken tijdens de aanleg van de Maasvlakte,
omdat de toren van Hoek van Holland daardoor te ver van zee kwam te
liggen. Het optiek in de toren stond vroeger in de toren van Hoek
van Holland. De vuurtoren brandde vroeger zowel overdag als 's
nachts.
De cache kan worden gevonden op 4491 meter 97,1º True
North vanuit het hart van de vuurtoren, op een punt waar de
waterleiding het land opkomt.
The lighthouse is the last big lighthouse
that was built in Holland. It was built together with the
Maasvlakte because the old lighthouse in Hook of Holland became to
far land inwards. The optics of the lighthouse are the old optics
from the Hook of Holland lighthouse. In earlier days, the
lighthouse was lit day and night.
The cache can be found 4491 meters
in direction 97,1º True North from the centre of the
lighthouse at the exact spot a watersupply pipe enters the
land. |

De cache kan met de auto tot op 1 meter bereikt
worden. De laatste kilometer is echter nogal ruig terrein, vooral
als het flink heeft gewaaid. Er ligt dan veel zand op de weg. Ook
staan er vaak auto's van vissers waardoor de doorgang vrij nauw kan
zijn. Voor degene die twijfelen adviseer ik het laatste stuk (1
kilometer) te wandelen. De plaatser aanvaart geen enkele
aansprakelijkheid! Ga niet achter hekken!
Op de lokatie zelf heb je een prachtig gezicht op
de grootste containerterminals van Rotterdam en met een beetje
geluk zie je zo'n containerreus binnenlopen. De grootste schepen
kunnen wel zo'n 10.000 containers tegelijk vervoeren. Ook de
grootste mammoettankers komen hier met grote regelmaat langs.
The cache can be reached upto
1 meter by car. The last kilometer however is rough terrain,
especially when there have been strong winds. There is a lot of
sand on the road. Also there are parked cars from the fishers which
only leave narrow passages. For those who aren't sure, I advise to
leave the car and walk the last kilometer. The owner of the cache
will not take any responsibility for damage! Don't cross any
fences!
On the location itself, you
have a magnificent view over the largest containerterminals of
Rotterdam and with a bit of luck you see a large containervessel
entering the port. The largest vessels carry as much as 10.000
containers! Also the largest oiltankers often pass
here.
