This cache is among the remains of an old Civilian Conservation Corps camp site that was used from 1933-34 to build the first road between Boulder and Escalante.
I placed this cache in honor of my grandfather who worked with the CCC as a teenager. Take the time to read the monument and imagine what it might have been like to live there 70 years ago.
You're looking for a camo-painted ammo can that is somewhat concealed.
The contents include:
a golf ball, tee, marker, and divot repair tool,
sunglasses,
CSNY CD-R,
Clif Bar,
Luna Bar,
One US Dollar Bill,
Film Canister (Original cache container) with less than 50 cents inside,
Geocaching New Hampshire handkerchief (Thanks NH!),
Utah Firebug TB,
2 moist towlettes,
2 AA batteries,
1 Tea Bag,
Shell necklace,
Utah Highway Map,
Salt Lake Buzz Inaugural Game Commemorative Pin,
and Log Book and Pencil with sharpener (please keep these in cache for obvious reasons).
In order to see the best part of the Hell's Backbone road, approach the cache from the Boulder side, or if you came from Escalante, continue on the road after you find this cache. In summer, this is an easy (albeit washboardy) road for most vehicles. When snowy, you need 4x4 or ATV or snowmobile, etc. The road over Hells Backbone is usually closed in winter, but you may be able to approach cache from Escalante side during winter months. Check with UDOT or the US Forest Service before you try. Have fun and be safe.
