Geocache Description:

The exposed root of this huge Douglas Fir forks and then rejoins itself forming a hoop. What an amazing anomaly!

The hoop looks like a tree branch because it has barked over since the earth was eroded from it. I don't think any of us will see such a thing often in our life times.

This is all together a neat place. It is up Ely Creek in Jones Hole. You can reach Jones Hole by road or by floating down the Green River through Dinosaur National Monument. From either direction you're looking at a 2.25 mile hike. Along the way you'll see spectacular scenery. Maybe you'll want to fly fish on Jones Creek.

As you hike up Ely Creek you'll encounter a small waterfall. Great fun can be had "Power Showering" at the fall. This is done by plugging off the stream with your derrier while the "victim" gets situated at the bottom. When the dammed stream is released the person below gets a "Power Shower". We've done everything from a one butt to a 21 but shower. There are many places above the rim which can be dammed off by bodies. The upper most bodies jump out first allowing what they've stored up to flood to the next dam. Then those jump out and so forth until the wave reaches the final person. Hang on to him or he may be washed over the edge, which would not be a pretty sight. As for the person taking the shower - advise him or her to hang on to his/her britches!

About a quarter mile North of Ely Creek in the main canyon you'll find some very interesting Petroglyphs.

There are two campsites at the confluence of Jones Creek and Ely Creek. These can be reserved through Dinosaur National Monument. Permits are required. Phone: 435-789-2115
