The general area of Pack Rat's Sand Pile is called Dead Man Bench. Legend has it that a dead man's body was once found a bit further up the road.
The wonderful formation North of Highway 40 is called Cliff Ridge. I never grow tired of looking at Cliff Ridge. The way the light and shaddows play in it's deep ravines make it a different scene every time I view it.
The cache is hidden near several Pack Rat nests. Some are in Utah Juniper Trees, others are on the ground. Two are East and West of the trail about chest high in two trees about two thirds of the way to the cache. Please don't disturb them. You won't see the critters unless you're out a night like they are.
The cache is in the cleft of one of the largest Utah Junipers I've ever seen. The tree isn't especially tall, but the circumference of the entire trunk is amazing.
Please stay on the trail where there is Cryptobiotic Soil.
